The Edinburgh house where J.K. Rowling wrote four of her seven Harry Potter novels has been sold for well over $3.6 million.
The 19th-century Victorian mansion – which includes eight bedrooms, a walled garden and a detached office in the back where Rowling reportedly worked – went to an anonymous Scottish businessman, James Whitson, the real-estate agent who dealt with the property, confirms to PEOPLE.
Whitson told the Scotsman newspaper: "This was an iconic house in Edinburgh. … To be honest, it was a refreshing change to the normal house. There was a bit of magic involved, which was quite fun to deal with."
Among 16,000 unique Web visitors who checked out the house's real-estate listing, the majority were in the U.S. and Asia, although no one from America visited the property, Whitson said. The house was on the market for three weeks.
According to the BBC, the author-mogul and her husband Dr. Neil Murray moved with their three children to another neighborhood in Edinburgh in 2009. In July, they applied for a city permit to build two interlocking tree houses in the backyard of their current home, costing about $240,000.
In 1999, Rowling bought the top half of the house for $681,000, soon after the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. She later bought out her downstairs neighbor to convert the house to a single stand-alone mansion.
